A little list of terms and abbreviations you'll find in my posts.

Terminology

Anime: is commonly defined as animation originating in Japan. The definition sometimes changes depending on the context. In English-speaking countries, anime is also referred to as "Japanese animation".

Bishounen: beautiful boy

Doujinshi: are self-published Japanese works, usually magazines, manga or novels. They are often the work of amateurs, though some professional artists participate as a way to publish material outside the regular industry.

Gender bender/Gender switch: in fanfiction, a type of story where the sex of one of the characters is changed to its opposite for the sake of the story
ie: a male character is changed into a female one, or the opposite, by birth, not external interference (ex: operation, magic).
ex: "What if Harry Potter had been born a girl" kind of story.
(Not to confuse with transgender or transsexual.)

Manga: consist of comics and print cartoons (sometimes also called komikku コミック), in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century.

Seme: (often referred to in English as "tops") usally refers to the more dominating partner in a yaoi relationship (at least in the sex deparment).

Shoujo: refers to manga marketed to a female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18. Shōjo manga covers many subjects in a variety of narrative and graphic styles, from historical drama to science fiction - often with a strong focus on human and romantic relationships and emotions. [...] Fans in the West have adopted a wide range of Japanese anime and manga terminology, however the strong stylistic and thematic similarities between a sector of shōjo works has led to regarding them as a genre or style, sometimes with an attempt to assign it by degrees. This has led to western fans classifying a wide variety of titles as shōjo, even though their Japanese creators would label them differently. Anything non-offensive and featuring female characters may class as shōjo.

Uke: (often referred to in English as "bottoms") usally refers to the more submissive partner in a yaoi relationship (at least in the sex department).

Yaoi: also known as Boys' Love, is a popular Japanese term for female-oriented fictional media that focus on homoerotic or homoromantic male relationships, usually created by female authors. Originally referring to a specific type of dōjinshi (self-published works) parody of mainstream anime and manga works, yaoi came to be used as a generic term for female-oriented manga, anime, dating sims, novels and dōjinshi featuring idealized homosexual male relationships. The main characters in yaoi usually conform to the formula of the seme (lit. "attacker") who pursues the uke (lit. "receiver").
